BAG ROOTING
I am often asked what method I would suggest when rooting frangipani cuttings and branches. I simply can't get past simple bag-rooting in peat moss, for almost 100% success. Many of my customers have also had much success with this method, and my friend Michelle actually wrote a short article when she conducted her own trials last year, in Perth. See Frangipani Facts Number 25 on the Frangipani Society of Australia's website for more information. Alternatively, click on Michelle's link, here, or if it doesn't work for you, just copy and paste into your browser.

A CARNARVON DARK PINK
Here's a cheapie to start your collection off. It's a local dark pink that goes purple around the edges in heat, and has a good strong floral perfume. If you look at the Frangipani Society of Australia's website, this one is shown at the top right hand corner, with a bit of my finger in there, possibly. Cuttings are only $15 to get you started, because this is now a huge tree. Available all the time.

HEART OF ERIN
For the frangipani fanatic! Here's a really nice seedling of Thai Lanna, which has the working name of Heart of Erin. Only two small trees (approx 1.5 metres tall) at $75.
This new cultivar has that much-admired strong 'veiny' look, and a pretty floral sweet perfume. . SORRY - NO MORE BRANCHES CAN BE TAKEN FROM THIS TREE FOR NOW.

HOLI LEELA
Here is another seedling of Thai Leela, which has just been given the working name of Holi Leela by Mr Scott Raymond, of NSW. It's a very bluey sort of pink, giving the impression of mauve-to-purple hues, in the heat. Perfume is of the eau de cologne type, pleasant and about mid-strength. Two branches can be taken at this stage, $40 each. Will be quite long, as it's a fairly fast grower. Please note that these shots were taken last year, and in 2011 it's colours are much darker, absolutely stunning, if I'm honest! Huge blooms, too. A winner on all fronts.

DE-LIGHTFUL
 |
This tree was grown from a seed from my friend De Flavel in Geraldton. It flowered for the first time at 1 year 10 months and 28 days, and didn't stop flowering for 18 months, going all through that first winter. It was a three-brancher, so I went from three, to nine, to 27 branches in this 18-month period. These blooms are subject to colour-breaks once temps reach 40 C and upwards, which can be rather attractive, I think. Also, the pink blooms become darker in the heat, almost moving towards a pinky purple. Branches are very chunky, and produce a good big root systen. Prices start from $25 unrooted.
Interestingly, I now have flowers on the first seedling (April 2011) produced from a seed from this tree, and they are quite mauve-looking - almost purple tones on the undersides of the petals and buds. Definitely one to work on from if you grow from seed and are chasing those elusive mauves and purples!

Coral Coast 'JR'
Here's another brand newie - a hybrid from a Hilo Haughin seed from Thailand, recently named 'JR' in honour of Scott and Kerri Raymond's new baby son Joshua Raymond. Huge blooms, though perfume is only lightly floral. Branches are very big and fat, now only one left at $40. Once gone, that's it, because this is a fairly young tree, and storm damage two years back meant half of the tree was lost.. SORRY - NO MORE BRANCHES CAN BE TAKEN FROM THIS TREE FOR NOW.

Coral Coast 'Rainbow Jungle'
Here's an absolute show-stopper, and yet another Thai Leela seedling. It is the signature frangipani of the Rainbow Jungle in Kalbarri, a tourist attraction NOT to be missed. Both the tree and the blooms are big and bold, with thick, weighty branches. A superb specimen that tells us what creating new cultivars is all about. I can take two branches this summer, and they will be $30 each, taken straight off the tree and sent to you. Beware that these branches may only fit in the largest postal tube, so will cost a little bit more to post. If you are purchasing a larger consignment, being freighted to you in a box, this won't matter, of course, but I just thought I would mention it now.

CORALCOAST ASGER'S TRIBUTE
This is a glorious new cultivar grown from a seed from Thailand, originally (about 8 years ago now). It has a haunting, lovely perfume, and goes quite purple at the edges when there is a cyclone coming down the coast. It's also been featured on Channel 9 TV because I named it after one of our Sea Rescue Volunteer friends who was killed in a boating tragedy, through absolutely no fault of the skipper or anyone on the boat. Cecile O'Connor, a senior reporter for Channel 9 is one of the few people to own a growing piece of this tree, at the moment. I am releasing two more branches now, which will be $40 each. Pieces are big and fat and will NOT disappoint their new owners. Don't you just LOVE these veiny ones?
