THE FAMOUS JAPANESE LANTERN!
Here's a great favourite all around the world, to add to your collection if you are looking for something extra special. Japanese Lantern was found in Hawaii and is one of the first 51 cultivars to be recognised on the World Register. It has a very attractive 'weeping' habit when seen from a distance as the peduncles are long and the flowers bloom for a protracted period of time in any season, so hang downwards. In fact, in some seasons, I find I have the first inflorescence still flowering madly, while the branches that grew from beside it have a second lot of new infloresences flowering at the tips, giving a terrific effect. It also has a very pleasant perfume. Only available for a short time, as this was originally an import and I don't want to decimate the tree....just $25 per branch at the moment.

CORAL COAST SNOWFLAKES
 |
Here's another one that is rather different and certainly not available in any commercial nursery. I grew it from a seed of Sariah's Curly Pink, and it does blush a little in the heat, though it is basically lemon and white. Inflorescences are really big eye-catching clusters of pinwheel blooms, more reminiscent of the very earliest frangipanis found growing in the wild, by the botanists of a few centuries ago! It is a big fat (and fast!) grower that drips with pods, so is certainly very fertile. There's not much perfume, but planted in amongst others that do, I think some great and eye-catching displays could be created in your frangipani grove. Branches are mostly a metre+ and as my boxes are only just over a metre, if I have to cut some off the bottom to fit, I always include the extra piece for you to grow on - two for the price of one, really, and only $25 at the moment.

Col's Cooktown Sunset
 |
This cultivar was first identified in Cooktown in far north Queensland, and has a lovely story behind it. The Frangipani Society of Australia decided to submit it for World Registration, as Col's Cooktown Sunset, acknowledging its original owner, who so generously allowed pieces of his tree to be sent around the world. Rather annoyingly for society members, it has now been 're-birthed' a number of times, both here in Australia, and in various countries overseas. However, this is THE original plant, sent to me by Marilyn van den Bergh from Cooktown itself, some years ago. Super, fruity perfume, and delightful in every way. Only $25 a branch because I have plenty.
