SELLING IN JANUARY 2012
PAULA'S PATIENCE REWARDED was the first new cultivar from Australia to gain World Registration status, and to this day, I think it still has the best perfume I ever came across! It is strong, totally unique, and really lovely, with a hint of peppermint in the background, that you can almost feel on your tongue. It also has a 'glowing' quality at sunset, probably from the hot orange and pink shades of blooms. It is truly outstanding, and I now harvest a few branches each year from the mother-tree, at $30. They are big, fat and nuggety with a fairly compact growth habit.

PUDICA
I have many seed-grown Pudica trees, the seeds originally coming from Florida Colors in the US. Pudica was thought to be a single genus species, and though it is possible to occasionally take Pudica pollen to a rubra, it does not work the other way around. I've tried hundreds of times now, without succhess. Be aware that Pudica plants purchased from commercial outlets will always have been grown vegetatively (from cuttings or by tissue culture). By growing from seed, the plant grows much faster, and trunk and branches are much more vigorous too. I supply branches up to 2 metres tall, and also seedlings. Some of my Pudica seedlings carry a mild vanilla scent, and in Carnarvon, they flower all year round. They make great hedging plants and can be pruned to shape. Seedlings are from $10 and tall branches up to 2 metres from $30. By purchasing as seedlings, freight costs are kept right down.

Seedling of Bali Palace
If you ever wanted a really good strong yellow, with nice big roud petals you will want to add this beauty to your collection. It was grown from a seed from the famous Bali Palace, imported from the US. Unfortunately the perfume is not strong, though the blooms are outstanding. Branches start from $40. SORRY - NO MORE BRANCHES CAN BE TAKEN FROM THIS TREE FOR NOW.

SINGAPORE EVERGREEN
Plumeria Obtusa/'Singapore Evergreen' is the world's most loved frangipani, and can be found growing in all sorts of unlikely places these days, including the UK believe it or not. The scent alone is unforgettable. Foliage is thick and glossy, and though a few leaves may be shed in winter, in cooler climates, it copes well in most areas of Australia, except where winter frosts are experienced.
To overcome frost-burn, it is quite easy to dig these trees up (root systems are surprisingly small) and pop them in the garage to 'overwinter' as many in the US do. Just re-plant once winter frosts are gone, and your plant will soon spring back into life again! This applies to all frangipanis, not just Singapore Evergreen, by the way. Branches from $20 at the moment, because I have plenty.

Coral Coast 'Pink Pearl'
Now for something really different. This tree was grown from a seed occuring after a random crossing of Singapore Evergreen. It flowers both winter and summer, in Carnarvon. Petals are long, thin, and pale pink, slightly darker on one side, and with a yellow eye that goes down to an orange/red throat at the centre. Perfume is a strong, sweet floral. Leaf texture is like chamois leather. Branches start from $50.

McLEOD'S DAUGHTER
Here is something totally unique, for the real collector. It is a pink evergreen tree, lots of perfumed pink blooms, the result of a pigmented rubra crossing into a local Singapore Evergreen. It flowers over a long period, and is getting better as it gets older. It has gone for World Registration as Coral Coast McLeod's Daughter. SORRY - NO MORE BRANCHES CAN BE TAKEN FROM THIS TREE FOR NOW.

US IMPORT 'IRMA BRYAN'
Something that should be in EVERY collection! This was originally an import from the USA and is on the World Registration database as "Irma Bryan". You might see some Aussies being 'creative' and giving it other names, because they don't know any better, but this is the REAL Irma Bryan, and can easily be recognised by the saw-tooth edge on the left hand side of each petal. It's a dark red with an orange centre. Perfume is not strong, and they take a little longer to root, but how could you not love Irma?! $25 until Christmas.
